Trailer Repair Mechanic - Hostler Driver & Ground Person

Hourly Pay Ranges:
Entry Level= $22- $23
Mid-Level- $24 - $25
Senior Level-$26 - $28
Schedule:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday -
Start Time can vary from 5AM to 8AM depending on workload
End Time can vary from 10 to 12 hours a day
Thursday & Friday - Off Days
Schedule Will Vary depending on workload
Summary:
As a trailer repair mechanic at the Kansas City, MO intermodal
terminal you will conduct thorough inspections of refrigerated
containers. You will also be working as Hostler Driver - Ground
Person. In this position you will train at the entry-level Ground
Person position for a minimum of two weeks. The ground person is
responsible for directing crane operators who are loading and
unloading cargo containers from railcars. The ground person is also
responsible for preparing railcars for loading and unloading by
removing and installing IBC locks and will also be trained in the
Hostler Driver position for a minimum of two weeks.
Hostler Drivers perform a variety of driving tasks, including
hauling containers from the rail track to other areas of the
intermodal yard for outside driver pickup, moving chassis, and
moving containers about the intermodal yard in a safe and efficient
manner. When you work in the role as a Trailer Repair Mechanic you
will diagnose, repair, and maintain trailers and chassis at the
terminal. You will utilize your mechanic knowledge to ensure the
safe and efficient operation of vehicles.

transportation department is responsible for directing the crane
operators and safely
Key Responsibilities:
--- Conduct thorough inspections of trailers to identify and
diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
--- Container and Trailer Movement
--- Yard Maintenance and Organization
--- Documentation and Recordkeeping
--- Safety and Compliance
--- Communication and Collaboration
--- Perform repairs & replacement work including but not limited
to, containers, lights, tires, landing legs, brakes, and
framework.
--- Perform repairs and replacements on faulty components such as
brakes, suspensions, axles, couplings, electrical systems, and
hydraulic systems.
--- Weld and fabricate metal components as needed to repair
structural damage or enhance trailer functionality.
--- Conduct routine maintenance tasks including lubrication, fluid
changes, and filter replacements to prevent potential issues.
--- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and identify
complex problems accurately.
--- Follow manufacturer specifications and guidelines to ensure
repairs are performed correctly and meet quality standards.
--- Maintain detailed records of repairs, including parts used,
labor hours, and customer interactions.
--- Provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating
repair options, costs, and timelines.
--- Mentor and assist entry-level mechanics, sharing your knowledge
and expertise to help them develop their skills.
--- Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and
best practices in trailer repair to continuously improve your
skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
--- High school diploma or equivalent.
--- Valid driver's license.
--- Certification or formal training in trailer repair or a related
field is preferred.
--- Proven experience as a trailer repair mechanic with a strong
understanding of trailer systems.
--- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical,
and hydraulic issues.
--- Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively.
--- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
--- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
--- Open availability
--- Ability to pass pre-employment background screen, physical and
drug screen
Physical Demands:
--- Frequent standing, walking, balancing while walking on elevated
catwalks, bending, and grasping.
--- With assistance, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75
pounds
--- Must be able to fit through a tank trailer manhole
--- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
